Since pictures of Team Malaysia at WCG’09 Grand Finals are very scarce…in fact, close to none, we have to settle for this old picture of Si_Jali. Don’t worry, his hensemness never changed.
We apologize that this update came quite late, due to some unforeseen circumstances. The WCG 2009 Grand Finals has just lay down its curtain few hours ago and again, it is a medal-less WCG Grand Finals for Team Malaysia.
However, Si_Jali managed to give Team Malaysia an Top 8 placing in FIFA’09 which put this year’s campaign as one of the best so far. Let us recap what went on for the past two days, right after the jump.

Group Stage Day 2
The second day of the group stage proved to be a better day, in general for Team Malaysia. Two times WCG Asian Championship FIFA champion, Si_Jali did exceptionally well in group stage by defeating everybody in Group H which includes some of the tournament’s big name such as SK_Kr0ne, KesaR (ex-4Kings) of Serbia and USSR Team’s Xaxotun. Obviously, such an exceptional performance managed to land him a spot at the elimination stage.
However, our another FIFA rep - [T2.W|nDs]Vin - didn’t managed to follow Si_Jali to the next stage. Vin managed to won three matches - against Austria, Greece and Georgia - while losing to Denmark and Belgium together with a tie with Azerbaijan. Together with a free win against Cameroon, the results put Vin in 4th place of Group F with 13 points.
The same case happened to DuskBin.MarinE in group D of Starcraft. Poland and Germany succumbs at the hand of MarinE but however, he not able to the same thing against four other countries in the group. With that, he concluded his WCG 2009 campaign with a total of 9 points.
Things were no better for the other three Team Malaysia’s representatives. Starcraft’s Cobo managed to win two out of seven matches but it is not enough to move him anywhere outside of group C while in Warcraft 3, both HungJen and TankLiew fully perished in their respective group.
Elimination Stage
Si_Jali started his playoff campaign with a nice 2 -1 win against Kazakhstan’s PashOKZ. However, in quarter finals, the sole Malaysian player in elimination stage were kicked off from the tournament by SK.Hero of Germany. It wasn’t easy for Hero to pull a win against our player though as the first match actually ended in a 2 - 2 draw which forced them to go into extra time.
In the extra time, Hero managed to score a goal and the results remained 2 - 3 till the end of the match. Things were even more intense in the second game but Hero still able to slipped in a goal which he successfully defended against Si_Jali’s attack till the final whistle. So close yet so far…
Thus, the results marked the end of Team Malaysia’s WCG 2009 Grand Finals campaign. We would usually say “better luck next year!” but since right now, the status of next year’s WCG Malaysia is still currently lying in limbo, we don’t think that it is the right time to use our usual good luck wishes as it is unknown whether Team Malaysia are even able to participate in WCG 2010 Grand Finals in Los Angeles, USA.
Well, let’s hope that any issues surrounding WCG Malaysia 2010 will be sorted out soon enough, together with a number of travel issues such the (expected) US visa problem. After all, we ourselves doesn’t want to see the longest running eSports tournament in the country to die off too soon. Or will they? The decision lies on the hand of decision makers out there…
