PIKOM PC Fair 2009

It is yet another PC Fair weekend in KL Convention Centre, whereby tech enthusiasts and public alike would flock the huge convention center looking for new stuff and bargain deals. As for us button mashers, it is also the time to look for deals on games and related gears.

We stopped by at the event yesterday. It was a rather unplanned visit - without camera, wish list or even shopping list. We wished we brought them instead though, since there are aplenty of gaming-related booths from gears to games themselves around.

It is also good to note that we might missed couple of booths. For example, we didn’t see any Logitech booth around although we did came across one of their local distributor but they are promoting a different brand instead. Sometimes, the massive size of the fair plus the number of crowd

Still, this walkthrough should be able to give you a rough glimpse on how things are at this year’s second PC Fair at KLCC. Jump in for the full story.

The first gaming-related booth that we came across belonged to MyCNX/MOL. It is also the first booth of the fair for visitors that choose to use the 3rd floor route. At the booth, MyCNX promoted a number of games from their diverse catalog such as their all new War 2. For those who loves booth babes, this is the place to be for obvious reason…I mean, just look at one of their uniform. ;)

The next booth that we sneaked by was Sony. They had two PlayStation 3 for demo, together with a number of games and accessories that you can buy during the fair. No price difference though for both PS3 and PSP, compared to the price outside the fair but they are offering a number of special premium goodies for customers.

Just next to Sony’s booth is one of the Dell’s many booth across the fair. But then, we believe that this is the only booth that has an Alienware M17x for display. This particular unit spots a price tag of more than RM 10,000. We didn’t actually stopped by to play around with it though as we already did so in Singapore during WCG Asian Championship last month. But if you happens to go to PC Fair today or tomorrow, make sure to test it out and feel the laptop’s massive firepower yourself.

We moved on the ground floor halls where most of the booths are located. Our first stop was Microsoft booth. Although they were focusing more on the upcoming Windows 7, Microsoft Hardware products are also on sale at their booth such as Xbox 360 controllers and Sidewinder gaming family. The prices are relatively the same outside PC Fair, except for Sidewinder X3, which available for less than RM 90. Not available for sale however is the Sidewinder X8 Mouse.

Sony is not the only one that offers console gaming at PC Fair. Master Genius, an established console games and accessories distributor also had a booth over there. Their range of products covers pretty much all current generation consoles and handheld gaming devices. As far we know, there are no other console gaming booth apart from Sony and them.

Razer always have a presence at PC Fair and this time, they have one whole booth for themselves. The available deals for their products are not bad whether you want to grab single or multiple items, which they going to throw together couple of Razer swags together with each purchase. Also, not only all their mouses, keyboard or headsets are available, their wearables such as shirts and bags are also up for grabs.

At Razer’s booth, we also spotted a number of products from Replay Interactive for sale. In fact, the demo machine at Razer’s booth was equipped with Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm. This is the only PC gaming that we managed to found out. There might be a couple more, so keep you eyes opened.

Another well known gaming gear company, Steel Series also made an appearances at PC Fair with a huge booth. As per their other competitors, the company’s full lineup of product are available for grabs throughout the fair, all of them with special PC Fair prices. Somehow, they also have a product that’s not for sale - the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty mousepads. Yeah, we ogled at them.

Last but not least, we made a routine stop at the booth belonged to Lowyat.NET’s official gaming magazine, the GameAxis Unwired Malaysia. Sharing the booth together with their sister magazine, HWM, the magazine is giving away gifts for each subscription. They are four gift to be chosen from, ranging from wireless router to Internet security software suit.

We also received some information about CELgames’09, which is jointly organized by the magazine. It is 100% confirmed, but as for when, what and where…that’s still a secret. Too bad then, we all just have to wait for the official announcement.

That’s the end of our short tour of gaming-related exhibitors at PC Fair II 2009 at KLCC. To those who are planning to go there today and tomorrow, decide wisely and happy shopping! ;)
