Back in 2006, the California-based Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to create a live-action movie adaption of Blizzard’s Warcraft series. Since then, the production plan has shifted its focus to World of Warcraft and has recently signed on Sam Raimi as the director of the upcoming movie.

Raimi is known for his work on Spider-Man trilogy, The Evil Dead and his most recent movie, Drag Me To Hell. According to the press release, the famed director and producer is pretty thrilled about the project’s production team and the project itself and said: “At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story,“.

The people at Blizzard has also already expressed their satisfaction on the director’s choice. According to Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment:

From our first conversation with Sam, we could tell he was the perfect choice. Sam knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience that might be experiencing that content for the first time. We’re looking forward to working with him to achieve that here.

Apart from Blizzard and Legendary Pictures, the movie will also be co-produced and co-financed by Warner Bros. Since the movie is still in development phase, there are no cast list or actual release date available. We guess the movie still have Blizzard’s common development habit, - “It’s done when it’s done,”.
