(L-R) Managing Directors of Go International - Jasming Low and Nikki Yeo, Kamil Othman of MDeC and David Garpenstahl of DreamHack Sweden

As posted last Thursday, the signing ceremony between Go International Group and DreamHack Sweden took place at MSC Cybercenter in KL Sentral yesterday. The cooperation between these two outfit will enable the first ever DreamHack qualifier in Asia to take place here in Malaysia.

Representing the Swedish outfit was David Garpenstahl - the CEO and Chairman of DreamHack Sweden while for Go International Group was the Managing Director, Jasmine Low. Also on hand to witness the signing ceremony was Kamil Othman - the Vice President Creative Multimedia of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).

When asked what to expect at DreamHack Winter 2009 this coming November, David jokingly said, “It will be dark & cold.” *LOL*. He continued on to said that the event will be a celebration to digital culture and they are expecting around 15,000 people to be there. As mentioned earlier, the Malaysian qualifier event will take place at Indie Youth Fest’09 this coming October but there are more to it…

…which we are going to reveal after the jump! Make sure to check all details. ;)

The Team To DreamHack

As for now, Go International is able to confirmed ONE Counter-Strike 1.6 team and ONE blogger will be going to DreamHack Winter 2009. More games might be announced on 1st August.

According to Jasmine, they are still working towards their ideal Team Malaysia contingent which is pretty huge - could easily involved more than 20 people from gamers, indie band and youth journalist. Jasmine also welcomes any individuals, bands or organization who are able to self-fund the trip, to be under the Team Malaysia banner.

They should consider sending a DotA squad instead of a Counter-Strike squad. Our CS team would stand no chance at all at Dreamhack. DotA would be more possible to win something back.

Yo Mr. Blue, u gotta remember that DotA is never an official game in Dreamhack nor WCG. Another thing Scandinavians prefer fps games more than DotA. After all, go.esc must be fair to all gamers as last year’s the cs team was not given the sponsorship. Being in the final 16 will definitely make Malaysia a reputable country in this esports industry. I just got this feeling that the local CS scene will become bigger than ever once Pentium Nehalem comes out, thanks to DHack :P

Btw, is there a travel agent that can arrange an affordable accomodation at the dreamhack summer? Might be in Europe, perhaps be able to join the crowd cheering our team there. Heard the entrance ticket fee is 65euro :/

Well that’s a great news really, like one more great oppurtunity for the S-Asian players. I suppose its not all Malaysian qualifiers, teams from the neighboring countries can also participate I guess. Good chance for Titans from Singapore. Hope that a+e from India gets sponsors to play at the qualifiers they are the best of what we have for cs 1.6 in India.

rndm: While I share your enthusiasm, if I’m not mistaken, the qualifier is open to Malaysian only. :|
Pink.O.Zinic: Go did mentioned that with DH.my qualifier, they are indeed holding to the promise of sending a CS team abroad after not sending one to ESWC’09 GF. I guess you can try to contact Go to help with your travel arrangement.

Mr^Blue~ : Your point is not wrong as well and Go is in fact would like to put DoTA, if sponsorship permits. But then DH haven’t announce eSports games for Winter yet, so there’s still time I guess.

    haller: I will. :D
m00tchan: I thought SFIV was only for DH Summer? I think they haven’t announce games for DH Winter…

If I’m not mistaken, no, there will be no qualifier. Just registration.
