At the Codemasters Gamers Day event in San Fransisco recently, the UK-based developers teased the crowd with details from many of their upcoming 2009 titles. Among them was Colin McRae: DiRT 2, which is currently is being developed with the help of teams from Codemasters KL.

Speaking to Gamespot in a video interview at the event, Guy Pierce, the Senior Brand Manager of Codemasters spoke about the new locations in the games, among the many new aspects of the game. These new locations are located all over the world which not really known among European-centric rally fans like China, Croatia and the best of them all, our beloved Malaysia. ;)

Guy described that in Malaysia, the condition is like “muddy, thick mud and you know, going through jungles,“. From the screenshots we saw so far, it is pretty accurate with the palm trees surroundings and muddy terrains all, which is a typical scene at Malaysian Rally Championship (MRC). Minus the advertisements though… seriously, DC Shoes adverts in MRC? Naaaaaahhh.

DiRT 2 is expected to out in September 2009 on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and Wii. Video of the interview is available after the jump.

Why are they using Colin McRae’s name? That’s a little disturbing.

Think of it as a tribute to one of the greatest rally driver in history. The decision was made together with McRae’s family. Besides, I think the they might benefit from the licensing too.

will the malaysia track be a real life track or just fictional track with palm trees? hahaha!

  4. Chapree said:

Most probably fictional that based on real life course. To think of it, I believe in all Colin McRae Rally/DiRT games, the courses are fictional.

the real course would be too long for games, thus they usually won’t recreate it. Altho I missed rallying through the Monaco track.
