UTP Opens It Door To Gamers For Electronic Sports Championship 2009

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in Tronoh, Perak is not really known as gamers’ university as per Multimedia University in Cyberjaya/Melaka (represent! ) or APIIT-UCTI in Bukit Jalil - to mention a few. That doesn’t mean that they are lacking of gamers though as from time to time, UTP students like to compete with each other during self-organized small scale LAN parties, as told by many of its current and former students.

Gamers now will have a chance to meet head to head against some of the UTP and the nation’s finest at UTP’s Electronic Sports Championship 2009. Organized by Syntech Organization with the help of UTP’s Computer & Information Science Department, the event will take place from 6th March until 8th March 2009.

DoTA, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 will be with more than RM 6000 worth of cash prizes are on the line. The registration for this event has been overwhelming as DoTA and PES participation slots have been filled to the brim while CS1.6 still have some slots available. That being said, the organizer will opened up more slots for DoTA provided that teams fully registered before the dateline on this Sunday, 22nd February.

Apart from the tournament, there other activities going in as well such as Gamers Forum featuring WCG 2008 Asian Championship FIFA champion, Si_Jali as one of its panel member, Career Talk, Bloggers Gathering and Photo Mania. Syntech also offers assistance to any outstation gamers that are looking for accommodation during their stay at the event, so everybody are pretty much covered.

On the side note, this event will be held on the same weekend as per MMU Cyberjaya’s E-Sports’09 (more on that later). Interested parties are advised to arrange their trip accordingly.
