Will the Online Games Industry Suffer
February 16, 2009 by eddyhan
… during the current economic recession?

Well earlier this month, Michael Pachter; an analyst from Wedbush Morgan commented that:
“I don’t think (online multiplayer games) get impacted at all, because people who play them are addicts… Losing their jobs makes them more likely to play because they have more time to play.”
Now it is obvious that when people has more time on their hands, online gaming is the cheaper entertainment to go about so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise that fact.
While I do agree that there are some online gamers out there who can be quite obsessive when it comes to their game, generalising “people who play games” as an addict is not really justifiable. It’s just the natural mindset of people to maximise game time when they are paying for it. I.E if you were to pay RM60 per month just to play an online game, won’t you make the most of it?
But on the side note if his prediction is correct, the online gaming industry should pick up at these hard times. So if you’re looking for a job advancement, you know where to look.
