Sudden Attack Media Showdown: MY vs SG
December 22, 2008 by eddyhan

The terrorist looked too innocent to be one.
With a string of Sudden Attack gatherings set to happen from this week onwards, the peeps from AS Online Sdn Bhd creatively organized a friendly showdown between media representatives of Malaysia and Singapore late afternoon last Friday.

Dubbed as a spoof of the ever popular game, “Counter-Strike”, a team of local media representatives were pitted against the media contingent from Singapore. Even though the only thing on the line for the winner would be bragging rights, that didn’t matter - a tough battle was to ensue.
Game play information and a video presentation of the game flashed across the screens, and we were given some time to warm up.
Disclaimer: The following explanation of the game is based on my independent opinion and does not necessarily depict the real gaming experience.
As a former CS player myself, I was pretty familiar with the controls (E = Use, G = Drop Gun etc.). There was the option of assigning my own keys, but I decided to use the default profile. I also noticed that the gory details of the game were turned off by default, but I did the sane thing and turned them on.

Also like CS, you have to purchase your own weapon before heading into battle. In this game, we had to “rent” weapons from the item mall and set them up before entering the game. Once inside, you can only change your weapons upon death.
The game play is easy and rather straight forward, which I feel many will find it very easy to pick up. Also, there are various game modes to choose from as well as a nice selection of maps to play on.
However, the only setback of the game would be the latency. This might posed as an issue to some serious players, but to the average Joe, it’s pretty bearable.
I won’t go into further detail on how the game is played, but if you want to find out more, please log on to the Sudden Attack’s Official website and give it a try for yourself! The game is free to play, however the purchase of certain items require the purchase of credits.
As for the showdown between MY vs SG, I sat out on the first match to take some pictures for this post. I joined Daniel from PCGamer, FatCat from GameAxis and two other friends from UCPro.MY for the second and third match.

The atmosphere was tense and filled with enough loud shouts and cheers to fool us into thinking that we playing in the final match of an international competition! Needless to say though, *ahem*, WE rounded off the remaining two rounds victoriously!
But the day wasn’t over for us yet. While we were still basking in the glory of our newly earned bragging rights, a trained group of AS Online players challenged us for an impromptu showdown. We graciously accepted their invitation, and pretty soon, high-5’s were getting passed around the media team.
The AS Online weren‘t that bad; we were just the better team.
So, if you’re a fan of FPS gaming and want try out something new for free, you should give Sudden Attack a try. It may not be the most addictive of games, but it’s a satisfying way to burn that spare 30-minutes you have sitting around. Apparently, a little bird from the sky told me that they might be running a huge competition-based campaign next year, and it might be lucrative to the best players in the region.
So go and train yourself now. Check out on their roadshows or just log on to their official website for more information.
To our SG comrades: GG!
