QUAS DoTA Super Gaming Cup 2008 Day 1 Recap

Organized by QUAS Cyber Cafe, the QUAS DoTA Super Gaming Cup 2008 took place today at its outlet in Pelangi One Avenue, near Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya. With zero registration fee and total cash purse of RM 4000 on the line, it attracted as many as 64 teams to the cyber cafe.

Taking a look at the participants list, one would make an assumption that only a handful of well-known team such as DNA-SK, Penang’ICE, MKVL, UCpro|Tbun’w4s| and Cybertime-GoV registered for this event. But then, a chirping bird told us that after last week’s SGNDT’08 Grand Final, a lot of players were moving from one team to another and these team with new players combination will debut at QUAS-DSGC 2008.

First thing first: The tournament bracket.

For yesterday, more than 3/4 of the field were eliminated from the competition as QUAS DoTA Super Gaming Cup 2008 used a strict single-elimination bracket. As expected, most of the established teams booked a place in the Top 16 apart from DNA-SK and ChoiMeiMo.Gaming who went through even further to quarter finals.

Spotlight of the day pretty much went to DNA-WnG which compete under the PGA name during last week’s SGNDT’08 Grand Final. Yes, it is the infamous Flizzardo’s team that caught SGNDT’08 by storm with their 8th place achievement. But apparently, he was missing from yesterday’s lineup due to “conflicting schedule”, says rumors around the competition venue. .

WnG went through to Round 2 to meet the mighty UCpro|Tbun’w4s| after their Round 1 opponent - Survivor was a no-show. QUAS Cyber Cafe was overcrowded with fans anticipating this match. Unfortunately, Tbun’W4si was the stronger team in this match, forcing WnG to go home early.
