WGT Malaysia 2008 Day 1 In Pictures

The second edition of World Gamemaster Tournament Malaysia took place yesterday at Mid Valley Megamall, here in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Around RM 50,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs in the three day tournament that featured Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike 1.6, FIFA’08 and Need for Speed ProStreet.

The event was held at Hall 2 of Mid Valley Exhibition Center, together with Adventure and Travel Expo 2008. Unfortunately, when we left the venue yesterday, a lot of matches are still running.

So, what we can only offer is a glimpse of what went down during the event. All after the hyperspace jump.

WGT Malaysia 2008 was officiated by Jacky Lim, Account Manager of ASUStek Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in a very casual and simple opening ceremony held at the ASUS roadshow area. Right after that, the long wait time begins. You see, some error happened during players check-in process held on previous day, so a number of additional players and teams popped up in the brackets making the tournament progress kinda hay wired.

Not only the additional extra players, the number of available tournament island also seemed very small. In fact, it looked like half of last year’s PC which pretty much lengthen the waiting time for each match. The long wait forced many to do whatever they can to filled up the time. Some watch matches shown near the tournament area while some just chat or goofing around with each other.

NFS ProStreet competition was the first to finish. Apparently, a lot of registered players were absent yesterday thus gave their opponents a very win to the next round. It pretty much made the NFS’ marshals jobs easier, I guess.

The most interesting FIFA match of the day surprisingly didn’t came from battle of titans (that yet to happen, it’s only Day 1, come on…). It came from the above picture’s match. Both players have their own supporters which made that crowded corner roar with awesomeness every time each player made a move. Well played, boys!

A TV crew was around as well to capture two of the most well known gamer in the country, FoRza and [W|nDs]Si_Jali. Since Si_Jali was not participating in this year’s WGT, the focus were more on FoRza as you can see in the picture above, sharing some of his virtual racing knowledge to the show’s host.
