The official launch event was graced by Tetsuhiko Yasuda, the Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Asia and accompanied by the Managing Director of Sony (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Naoi Sudo. In his speech, Yasuda thanked everybody that attendance for their support of the console and the event.
As many might knew, the whole event actually started on Friday; where the 24 hours Soul Calibur IV marathon for Malaysia Book of Records took its place at 10 am. You know who else should be in the record book? The person below: Joey and her partner in-crime, Lenny. They started lining up on Thursday at 8pm! That’s around 40 hours for a PlayStation 3!

Yessshh, it’s mineee nowwww! - Joey
Of course, they not only going home with the launch bundle and the honor as the first official PlayStation customers in the country, they also received a Sony Style RM 1000 cash voucher as the first person on the line. This is what they go to say:
Multiplay (MP) : How do you feel on being the first official PlayStation 3 customer in the country?
Joey (J): My thought and my spirit is very excited but my body is really exhausted now, lol.
MP: So, are you going back, take a rest or you going to straight plug it in and play?
Lenny: (L): Try first and see if…
J: No, got to eat first with all my girlfriends, lol!
MP: Is there any game on your mind apart from those that came together with the console?
J: There is Metal Gear and…what…*looking at Lenny*
L: Gran Turismo. *shineeeey eyes*
UPDATE: This interview is now available in video (plus few more videos) HERE!
Overall, local gamers can expect great things for PS3 from now on, at least when it comes to games. Sony Malaysia’s Naoi Sudo did mentioned in his launch speech that the Malaysian government have decided to exempt PS3 games from excise duty, which should results in cheaper games. Of course, don’t forget about the one year official warranty. As long as your console have this official seal below:

I also managed to have a small chat with Taku Taguchi, General Manager of Sony Malaysia’s Product Marketing Division, touching about locally made contents for Malaysian PS3 owners. His reply was that the launch of PS3 yesterday was a just a starting step. Right now, they are looking at locally made contents in many aspects such as availability and also, they are now building a network among developers to generate them. Sounds like potential to me.
All in all, we didn’t managed stay long enough to catch the winner of the Soul Calibur IV marathon and Game Girls competition. This is because we spent too much time “negotiating” with our colleague to pass back Joey’s PS3 and vouchers.

We have to pujuk him to give them back to their owners. *tsk tsk tsk*

Cutting the excise duty off PS3 games was a very very smart move. I hope the next steps include:
1) PSN Malaysia
2) a downloadable game based off Kampung Boy (in HD!!!), and
3) being able to purchase the PSN prepaid cards at the nearest 7-Eleven and/or Petronas outlets.

Get a life, BILL GATES. This is what we call passion. Stop whinning if you cannot be the first lol
September 21st, 2008 at 2:26 pm
If ppl said gamers dun have life when they play games 24/7 then pro footballers play football 24/7 oso dun have life.
But its a gd bargain what. U wait 48hrs and you get a ps3 worth RM1000++! Even a beggar beg for 1 month wont get tht much amount you know!
So Bill Gates your name doesnt really resembles yourself coz obviously you donno much abt how to make money. Imagine if she already have a ps3 at her hse, she sold it and earn a sweet RM1000++ jst bcoz she waits 48hrs more than anyone else. Now that is gd investment!
Apart from that, Eddy your a married man. Grow up! lol ^^

On 12th June 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 was launched.
On 20th September 2008, PS3 was launched.
SO, the PS3 game was launched before the PS3 console itself was launched.
Hmm……
September 21st, 2008 at 5:29 pm
BILL GATES is just envy with the success of PS3 because we all know that PS3 totally owns Xbox360.
So, shut up BILL GATES and go **** yourself with your RRoD.

Malaysians should have boycotted Sony and their products as they regard Malaysian gamers as low class gamers by releasing the Playstation 3 two years late!
It’s their fault that the underwater sets and pirated games flourished here.
They should include Malaysia in their worldwide release.
But then again, IT’S A SONY!
duh!
Chapree: LOL, to each of his own opinion.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:42 pm

so in 7-8 years time if sony launches the PS4 will you pathetic loser still que up and buy the machine?come on, it’s a bloody machine that we can buy everythere.
lining up for a rolling stones concert…NOW THAT IS SOMETHING you can tell your friends about in 20 years and the story will still have substance.
tell your grandkids in 20 years time that you’ve lined up to wait for the sale of the PS3.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:26 am
Steve,
If you’re lining up to see the Rolling Stones, you won’t be telling your grandkids in 20 years….you probably be telling them NOW!!! Old timer!!!
Geez…if the folks on this forum get a kick out of lining up for the PS3 so let them be….their entitled to their opinion and you are entitled to yours…
But calling others losers just because you don’t share their interest just shows you might need to get out abit more….because guess what, different ppl have different interest…
It would be a pretty boring world if everyone conformed to one view…

Either,
1. Sony is buying Nintendo.
or,
2. The Legend of Zelda series is coming to the PS3.
or,
3. Somebody is gonna get their ass fired.

I’d love to own a PS3 but I think I dun have stamina to queue 48 hours. Anywayz, how does someone queue 48 hours, toilet how, wanna berak how, hungry how, sleep where or, night time kena rompak how?
Chapree: I believe there were Sony staffs on hand to assist them. Besides, all of the people that queue up helped each other and took turns to jaga each other spots.

Who said he got no life - You just envy about him and maybe you’re no life…PS3 is worth to be waited for every single minute even it’s 48 hours. He just got a bluray player+ game console + internet Browser + Linuxabled CPU..
Who said Malaysian is a low class gamer - It might true. the value of “Ringgit” is sooo as$hole cheap and low and it has prove that also you’re poor. Just stick to your GBA.. or working hard may get you a PS3 as well.
While SIngapore people stick to iphone Malaysian still happy with their n95.. what a so-called “has life”..
