Sony Malaysia Confirms The Official Launch Ceremony of PlayStation 3

Sony Malaysia’s PS3 minisite finally updated…one day late.

After much delay, Sony Malaysia has finally confirmed the official launch event of Sony PlayStation 3 at One Utama, Petaling Jaya on 20th September 2008. The confirmation came in the form of press release earlier this morning.

First thing first, the launch bundle! The bundle is now limited to the first 120 people that lined up on the launch day and it will feature a standard 80GB unit of the console, 2 PS3 games (one being Soul Calibur IV and either one of these: Assassins Creed, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma or Ratchet & Clank), a limited edition PS3 tote bag and a Soul Calibur IV CD holder. Not to forget Sony vouchers worth ranging from RM 1,000 to RM 150! All these for RM 1,799. RM 100 more from the earlier announced price, but still not bad.

For those who can’t made it to the launch event or prefer to buy the console itself without any games, the stand-alone machine will cost RM 1,599 as per yesterday’s press release and will available from 20th September onwards at these Sony outlets across the country.

Moving on to the launch event itself, the madness will actually start one day earlier - 19th September where the Longest Video Game Marathon attempt for The Malaysia Book of Records will start. 24 hours of Soul Calibur IV…only for the bravest souls out there.

The second competition on the list is only open for females called PS3 Game Girl. It is basically like a beauty pageant where participants have to go through a talent quest process, Q&A sessions and catwalk. The champion will receive a trip to Hong Kong representing Malaysia at Asia Game Show.

Sony is the second company to bring over their next-gen consoles (first being Nintendo Wii through Maxsoft/M.M Soft). Personally, I predict the launch will not ignite any huge impact on our console scene apart from the convenience of having local warranty. Unless Sony want to go extra mile to woe gamers with things like Malaysian PSN store and locally made contents which according to rumors, are already in the making.

So Microsoft, when is your turn? Your probable customers already grew impatient…
