Confirmed! (Again): Sony PlayStation 3 To Be Released Officially In Malaysia

Despite the notice at Sony Malaysia’s teaser site, up til 11:30pm just now, there are still no sign of incoming update. Nevertheless, the official release of Sony PlayStation 3 for Malaysia has been confirmed by Sony via a press statement released around 3:00 pm today.
Here are the summary from the press release:

Standard package contents:
- 80GB console unit x 1
- DualShock 3 wireless controller x 1
- AV Cable x 1
- USB Cable x 1
- Manual x 1
Price: RM 1,599.00

Also stated in the press release, Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited (SCEH), who is responsible for all things PlayStation in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia will also fully update the Malaysian PlayStation page at http://asia.playstation.com/my this coming 20th September to reflect the official availability of the console in our country.
I’m not sure whether RM 1,599 is OK for a standard package, but an official 1 year warranty plus localized PlayStation Network contents (yet to be confirmed) should justified the price tag. The only thing left right now is information pertaining the launch event such as activities, venues and of course, the launch bundle.

Malaysia, 10 September - Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited (SCEH) today announced the release of PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) 80GB model in Malaysia on 20th September 2008, at a recommended retail price of RM 1,599 (Including tax).
The PS3™ 80GB model will be a complete entertainment system comprising of a Blu-ray™ player, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine™, DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller, and a built-in 80GB hard-disk drive. The multi-functionality of the 80GB PS3™ is a comprehensive entertainment value designed to appeal to a wide range of consumers from hard-core gamers to general entertainment enthusiasts!
In addition, users will also be able to enjoy immersive game play experience on the popular PS3™ software title including “Soul Calibur IV™”. SCEH will continue to further expand the PS3™ platform with highly anticipated PS3™ game software title line-up such as “LittleBigPlanet™”, “Motorstorm 2”, and “Resistance 2”.
