APIIT Inter-College Cyber Games 2008 Recap

The students of APITT/UCTI Bukit Jalil have succesfully held another edition of Inter-College Cyber Games on 19th July 2008. Started in 2005 as a invitational tournament event, the ICCG’08 has more diversity as it catered for college students and also general public, for several competition.

The opening ceremony was graced with drum performance by Stonehedge, a professional drum team from Johor
Since this year’s edition of ICCG are managed by Shout! Studio, the college’s game development club, ICCG’08 also included game development talks that featured three individuals from local gaming industry. One of them was the Lead
Programmer of Codemasters‘ EGO game engine, Csaba Berenyi.
Berenyi mainly talked about the development of EGO and couple of technical information including his team’s common development methods. Two more speakers was Wan Hazmer and Chen Boong Keng. Hazmer talked in details about his award winning casual game - The Last Canopy and Boong Keng explained about his company - River Walk Multimedia’s current projects. One of them being a puzzle game framework developed using Microsoft Silverlight and another one is a 3D RSS engine.

Who would thought that all of the beauty in GRID were developed in our backyard?
Codemasters also further supported the event by setting up their now-familiar looking GRID console kiosks and gave away tons of Race Driver: GRID swags during casual GRID competition session. Apart from them, there were few more companies who opened up a booth at the event such as Online E-Club (Valve’s products) and AsiaSoft (CABAL Online). Also there was Eagle Games who promoted their MMO dance game - HighStreet 5 with performances by CO2 Dance Group.
Over to the main attraction of the event, the eSports tournament. Overall, there were 4 official games which are open only to college students. For public, apart from the casual GRID competition, there were also Winning Eleven 2008 tournament organized by Games Monster. Below are the list of winners for each of the five competitions:

Kudos to APIIT/UCTI students for organizing ICCG once again, well into its 4th year. Well, hope to see you again in 2009. Bigger and better maybe since it’s their 5th anniversary? *hint hint hint*
