Malaysia to have local Sony PS3?
August 12, 2008 by thurtin

According to several of our trusty industry sources, Sony Malaysia is poised to launch the PS3 sometime in September/October. Details are still very sketchy right now, but we were made to understand that this is for REAL.
Apparently, Sony is now hard at work putting everything together in place and they are doing all the necessary paperwork and groundwork to make the launch a reality. They have approached several local game distributors and our sources told us that they’ve even met with a senior executive from the Singapore office of an international game publisher recently.
No word on pricing, warranty details, bundle options, etc though. Rest assured that we’ll keep you updated once we get any more solid info from our end.

Well, a number of Sony Centers already selling PS3 (with ridiculous price tag though), I believe the sign is already obvious.

Not a big deal. How many actually buy Nintendo Wii from Maxsoft? How many people actually buy PSP from Sony Centre?
Unless they sell it at current street price, don’t see much of an impact other than being symbolic.

If PS3 is going to be cheap, I don’t mind investing one myself.
I just hope their mentality ain’t gonna be like some of the IT vendors in Malaysia; they sell you affordable units to play, then they sell you accessories that costs a bomb.

i dun mind if the price still the same, what’s important is we need official support from local sony center.
@Nicholas Leong
ppl dun buy psp from sony centre bcoz of pirate thingy, there is no such thing for PS3
Chapree: If price is same, of course it is not a problem. But what if, the price went up?

If the price is nice i think people will buy from Sony.
Got local warranty…..
Can’t really compare with Nintendo Wii from Maxsoft and also PSP due to both able to hack while PS3 is not. Everyone now playing original for PS3. So it will have their market too.

If Sony launches the PS3 here, they will probably be selling the 80GB SKU since the 40GB SKU is being phased out. Hopefully the price will be reasonable, otherwise people will just buy their PS3 from local game shops instead of from Sony.

This is good news indeed, just hoped the price for any of it SKUs dont exceed the price we bought from Singapore/HK.
Maybe the pickup rate ain’t much since ppl here got so used to buying pirate game. They will complain about the original’s price for sure for those unaware

yea….banzai! i hope they will have the 80gb bundle with the price of 40gb’s and comes with a dualshock 3!!!!

expensive game.. unaffordable..

heard it’ll be more pricey.

Price RM 1599.Good price indeed for 80GB model. Limited bundle model price during launch is RM 1799, comes with Soul Calibur 4 and another game title of ur choice; either Assasin Creed, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden or Rachet & Clank. I think this is a good bargain. I’m thinking of selling my current Singapore 40gb to get this malaysia model.

Last Sunday i went to this shop near my house. They are selling 40gb at RM1280. He is saying that, don’t need to get it now, 80gb will be selling at same price once they get the order.

Dissappointed and regret of buying because PS3 80GB is different from PS3 80GB in other country because it doesn’t have card reader and only have 2 USB port.
It is still worth to buy from outside of Sony Malaysia
