Solid Snake Hits KL: MGS4 Official Malaysian Launch

On 12th June 2008, millions of gamers all over the world especially Sony PlayStation 3 owners celebrates the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 - the long awaited finale of Solid Snake saga. It also marked the end of 10 years wait for Metal Gear series fans everywhere.

In Malaysia, the country’s official Konami distributor, PLAY Interactive Software Sdn. Bhd. held two seprate launch event; one at TecAsia of Low Yat Plaza, KL and another one at Gamemart, Midlands Park, Penang.

Multiplay was there at the KL launch and man, it was huge! Check out all the bits and pieces from the event right after the jump.

More than 200 people lined up patiently in front of TecAsia that night. Remarkably, the first person in the line - Thomas “Sh1mX” Shim was there since 7.00am! By 11:00am, reports started to came into local forums that there were already more than 15 people in the line. It can’t get more hardcore than this.

The outlet itself was pretty much in party mode as well where almost every display in the TecAsia were graced with videos from Metal Gear Solid 4. Not to forget, MGS4 posters were also everywhere. Konami’s football game, Winning Eleven 2008 were also made available for the attendees with LCDs and PS3s provided by Games Monster, who are renowned for their Cyberjaya Lake Community Club PS3 tournament series.

While the gamers lined up outside the outlet, the customary press conference session was held inside for members of media. The conference was joined by Mr. Kamil Othman of MSC’s Multimedia Development Corporation, Mr. Choon of TecAsia, Mr. Andy of ConsoleGame.com.my, Mr. Andrew of PLAY Interactive, Mr. Nuruddin of Games Monster and Mr. Zainal a.k.a Ninja (aha!) of Play-Beyond.net.

In his speech, Kamil Othman expressed MDec support for this event and explained how it is related to MDeC’s Digital Media initiative. Media members were also given a short but detailed presentation on Metal Gear Solid series by Play-Beyond.net’s Ninja.

Ok kids, this is your pre-order card, just in case you already forgot how it looks like.

After a long wait, finally it was time for Solid Snake to roll out from the box. While TecAsia’s crew are busy packing up hundreds of game boxes for the attendees, it gave chance to the organizer to pump up the crowd and resolve any issues pertaining pre-order cards etc.

Just before 11:00pm, PLAY Interactive announced that the game is now ready to roll out. The wait has finally offer and from the looks of everybody that lined up that night, it was a big relief and exciting at the same time. Sh1mX finally get to obtain his game after more than 15 hours waiting in front of TecAsia.

“OMG, I GOT SNAKEEEEEEEEEE!!!!” - Sh1mX. He doesn’t look tired even after 15 hours waiting on the line.

While waiting for everybody to get their copy of the game, PLAY Interactive conducted the much awaited lucky draw that offered mouth watering prizes. Towards the end of the event, all we can see are smiles from the gamers while clutching to their copy of MGS4.

Congratulations to PLAY Interactive and all of its launch partner for such a successful launch event. If this is not enough to pursuit Sony (and others) to consider having an official presence and support in Malaysia, I don’t know what else to say anymore.
