Race Driver GRID Launch Party: Grand Prix Style Celebration

The launch party was graced with GRID Girls alongside PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 demo kiosks right in the middle of Zouk Mainroom.

Two years in the making, Race Driver GRID finally saw the daylight and was released to the market around 2 weeks ago. The game was then unveiled once again, this time to the Malaysian crowd with a posh launch party at Zouk KL last week.

A huge part of the game was developed by the people at Codemasters Studios branch in Kuala Lumpur. Apart from using local talents in the making of GRID, Codemasters Malaysia also received support from Malaysian government through Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad (MDV), whom main objectives is to finance and facilitate development for the ICT and high-growth sectors in Malaysia.

Speaking at the launch party, Md Zubir Ansori Yahaya, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MDV expressed MDV’s satisfaction with Codemasters Malaysia’s ability to produce high quality product such as GRID. He further elaborate,

“We believe that Malaysia has the capability and infrastructure to design state-of-the-art games as well as to nurture local talents, shaping them into world class designers. Codemasters has today paved the way for aspiring designers to step forth and we are certain that it will only be a matter of time before Malaysia’s gaming industry takes off.”

Maxime Villandre, General Manager of Codemasters Studios Sdn Bhd explained that the KL studio is already looking forward to the future,

“The establishment of Codemasters Studios in Malaysia is part of Codemasters’ aggressive growth effort and we are thankful to MDV for providing us the support to expand in this region. We are also looking into other new growth opportunities which hopefully will have Malaysia and MDV collaborating with Codemasters toward future venture successes.”

Ralph Fulton, the Chief Game Designer for GRID was at the launch party as well, to explain what Race Driver GRID is all about.

The launch party was attended by not only Malaysian guests, but also a number of Codemasters UK big kahunas such as Gavin Cheshire, Vice President of Codemasters Studios and Simon Parson, Chief Finance Officer of Codemasters Studios. Not to forget, the big man behind the game himself - Ralph Fulton, the Chief Game Designer for GRID!

Attendees were given a round of free drinks and also a huge discount to purchase the game on that night. The party went on till 1:00 am but unfortunately, I didn’t get to stay long. Aside from hanging out more with the GRID Girls, I heard there was some competitions and giveaways. Aiihhhh…

Kudos again to the folks at Codemasters KL who came out with such stunning game art for GRID. I heard there will be more to come from them. Obviously, I’m pretty excited about it already.
