Asian WCG Qualifier 2008 Registration Getting Out Of Hand?

Only 4 days left before WCG Malaysia 2008 Kick-Off starts at Low Yat Plaza, KL but recent changes in the WCG Asian Championship 2008 Qualifiers registration system - which will be held at the same event, are being criticized by many of their long time participants.

At first, it was on first come first serve basis but then the registration system was changed to lucky draw basis where the organizer - In2 Marketing & Consulting Sdn Bhd believe that it is much fairer to all participants compared to the original method. Unfortunately, majority of gamers doesn’t agree with it especially for those who are coming down from outside Klang Valley.

Using random draw system, there are possibilities that competitive players or teams would not get selected for the tournament. That would lower down the quality of the tournament, save for the finals where the qualifier’s top player would have to beat last year champion in order to represent Malaysia. Furthermore, if the non-drawn players/teams came from outstation, they would suffer more in terms of financial and time that they have spent for the trip.

Of course, all this so-called “loopholes” will only be valid if the number of turnout far exceeds expectations. Still, In2 should have take a more proactive approach especially when they have years of experience handling WCG Malaysia. Frankly, there are a lot of other viable method to smooth down the event’s registration process such as online pre-registration and seed-based registration. All these were suggested by gamers themselves, the very people that is going to use it.

With only few days left before the registration opens on Friday, it’s quite doubtful that In2 are going to change the registration system. Let’s hope that the shortcomings in the registration system will not stop the deserving players from representing Malaysia at WCG Asian Championship 2008.

UPDATE: After a day of heated debate at our forum, In2 officials decided to hear gamers opinion once again on “First Come First Serve” basis VS “Lucky Draw” system. No need to continue the debate, just list down which registration method that you favor more after this forum post.

“rules and regulations isnt solid thus can be misused.. ” if you would like to point out, i will thank you. I like feedback from ppl a lot… so please….

Besides, pre-registration? How it works? Can tell me? so whoever 32 register first, then the slots close? So, ppl at that time can say, oh my internet not working? oh i am busy that time? oh i am not at home that time?

Good one on seeding as well. So that means Msia always having same gamers roll and roll, i fight you, you fight me. What if there’s a good one, actually he stands a chance to join, but, because seeding, he missed out? So this isn’t fair to him as well. There’s nothing fair to be honest. It’s just that you scare you lose a chance? You can’t represent Msia? What about others? If that’s the case, only 16 ppl stand a chance?

What happen if you are the one who’s not in the seeding? How will you feel? I am a normal player, i trained and try my best, but i only have 1/16 possibility to get a slot. Think about it, those who post all the times are the one who’s on lowyat. I do believe there’s ppl who’s not on there too. So is this fair to those who’s not on lowyat? Ok, you may say they are noob, beginner or whatever? But are you not a noob before? PPL Join just because they want to gain more experience, but even this little chance, you also don’t give ppl, so is this call fair? And the so called TOP PPL like you all, every year also seeding, is it fair as well? Then might as well, we don’t need to have WCG Qualifier for National Championship? Seed you all, that will be enough. Isn’t that right?

Upset about In2? Why do In2 want to organize this? The reason is because In2 wants to let everyone has a chance to join eventhough they know they cannot accomodate a lot of ppl, but at least they try. If not, why will they bother? They can just send Jali, Forza and etc over to SG, why they want to find trouble themselves and let ppl complain about them being stupid? Ridiculous?

You all think about it, don’t just know how to complain. Every reasons have their own pros and cons.

Chapree: Ron, everybody wants only the best to represent the country to Singapore. That’s all. We are not upset with In2 as a whole, we even applauded In2 initiative to held an open qualifier. We just upset about the lucky draw system, which to us have many flaws.

While I do agree with the disadvantages of seeding but it’s down to this : if a player deserve to win, he will win it. All of the so-called “pro” have been through it before. Relatively unknown and then beat everybody - one person at a time. Seeding is just an alternative, not the only solution. Every other alternative have their flaws too, but they are still way better than the lucky draw system.

The online pre-registration method that I had in my mind was different from yours. It’s similar to the new lucky draw based system but instead it’s to be held online and few weeks prior to the event. If a player or a team doesn’t get chosen, they don’t have to waste their effort especially in terms of financial to be there at the event. This holds true for participants that comes from outstation or people that canceled or took leave from work to join the event.

The reason why nobody actually give much feedback about the registration system before In2 implement the lucky draw is because the first comes first serve method was better than the lucky draw method. Sure, there is a big problem for outstation players who faces unconfirmed spots. But, with lucky draw method also, they are still facing unconfirmed spots because the draw is held only one day earlier before the competition starts and by right, everybody is already here in KL.

That’s why the original method was better than the lucky draw system. Whoever wants it so bad will do whatever is possible to register including lining up at the registration counter as early as possible. That’s pretty fair to me, IMHO.

Before we go on further on this issue, regardless of my writings and replies here, it will not effect Multiplay’s coverage on WCG Malaysia and future In2 related events. We are doing our job, you are doing your job and together, we are doing counter-check balance for the benefit of Malaysian gaming scene.

you was thinking out of your mind?
seeding doesnt need to be 16 if there is 32 player slot
it can be 8 or 4?
as long as there is seeding, giving the top player best efforts is better than wat u suggest.

yeah for many years already our malaysian team lose miserably to other country team ven those team from Pakistan also get higher rank than us.

Chapree: Errr…are you sure? According to 2007 WCG Ranking, Malaysia is no 29 and Pakistan is no 70.
