May 9, 2008 by Chapree
After almost 5 months since we first found out about the revival of Electronic Sports World Cup Malaysia, the 2008 edition of the event is now ready for the world to see. The ESWC 2008 Malaysia was officially launched in a media conference held few days ago at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya, where the event’s Grand Finals will be this July.
Check out all the juicy details after the jump, with photos to boot. Yes, those 56Kbps users better watch out
The full media release is available online at ESWC Malaysia official website.

At the media conference, Jasmine Low - National Director of ESWC 2008 Malaysia was joined by a number of representative from ESWC 2008 Malaysia sponsors such as Eric Chow of Yokohama Battery, Dr. Ricky Lim of Sendi Mutiara Multimedia, Ryaz Patel of Intel Electronics (Malaysia) and Dustin Cheah of Blue Thunder to celebrate the official launch. Also in attendance was Kamil Othman, the Vice President of MDeC’s Creative Multimedia Department who also announced MDeC’s endorsement of ESWC 2008 Malaysia.

Jasmine Low - the National Director of ESWC 2008 Malaysia.
Speaking to the attendees, Jasmine explained that the aim of ESWC Malaysia is to increase the standards of eSports in Malaysia. She further explained, “When youth participate in global competitions like ESWC, it broadens their outlook and creates global dialog in their local world,“. Go International Group are expecting around 1000 gamers from all over the country to take up the ESWC 2008 Malaysia challenge through the nationwide qualifiers across 4 official ESWC games : Counter Strike 1.6, Warcraft 3:TFT, DoTA and Trackmania Nations.
Up for grabs at ESWC 2008 Malaysia are RM 100,000 worth of cash and prizes plus an all-expense paid trip to represent Malaysia at ESWC 2008 Grand Finals at Nvidia’s NVISION 08, held in San Jose, USA. Team Malaysia will be consisted of 1 DoTA team, 1 Trackmania Nations player and 1 Warcraft 3:TFT players. Too bad for CS1.6 players as the shortage of financial funding prohibits Go International Group to include the team for this year’s Grand Finals.

Powered by Intel SkullTrail, assembled by Computer War and equipped with Steel Series l33t stuff. If this doesn’t blow your mind, I don’t know what to say XD
At the event, all attendee was given the chance to test out two gaming system assembled by War.Mart - Computer War for ESWC 2008 Malaysia. The systems features the new Intel D5400XS motherboard (part of the Intel gaming platform codenamed “SkullTrail“) and professional gaming equipment by Steel Series such as the 7G Professional Gaming Keyboard, Ikari mouse and 5H v2 headset.

At the end of the media conference, all attendees was treated to a special performance by local independent singer songwriter, Zalila Lee.
Apart from the explosive gaming action from ESWC 2008 Malaysia, the event will be joined by the Independent Youth Festival, that features throngs of youth activities such as performances by local indie artists - Tempered Mental (one of my personal all-time favorite local band, wohoo!), Estrella, Mia Palencia, Zalila Lee and Yuna, screening of eSports-themed short movies, cartoonist display and ladies boxing action by Malaysian Boxing Association.

So, Solid Snake drive a Beetle, eh?
This festival will also feature console games competitions and Konami games showcase by their official Malaysian distributor, Play Interactive. Gamers can look forward for some Metal Gear Solid 4 and Winning Eleven action plus Elven Legends, a PC - 3G mobile phone MMORPG by MNC Wireless’s games development arm, Nexgen Studio Pte Ltd.

Thanks ole Chap for the write-up. Yes, peeps. This year, we’ve gotten amazing support from all of our sponsors. Our mission this year is to start off honestly, patiently and to grow this year by year as we’re committed to building ESWC and our Indie Youth Fest. Tx to our uber team, things are slowly getting off the ground for lift-off! In fact, the CS slots for Female and Male are there for us to take. It’s up to the gamers as well to step up and tell us if they want it or not. Not to be served up on a platter ;P
Chapree: Your are welcome, Jaz.
