WCG Singapore To Allow Foreigners This Year

WCG Singapore 2008
Hubba hubba hubba.

One of our usual stalker, pedobear [r0r1]m00tsumi recently wrote on his brand new pro-gaming blog about the existence of a new foriegners policy in WCG Singapore Campus Gaming Festival. The policy looks rather normal, given the nature of educational institution where there would be some foreigners around. But then this caught our attentions - “The seeded team will be playing in a new SG WCG category where foreigners will be allowed to play,”. Jackpot!

Upon contacting the organizer of the event - Rapture Gaming, this is the reply that we received from one of their officials:

For the Singapore WCG National finals we will be selecting some game category where we will allow foreigners to join and compete. We will be releasing the finalized game categories soon around early May.

To those who are foreign to the idea of participating at an oversea tournament, a number of Malaysian players have participated in WCG Singapore with much success before the nationality rules were amended in 2006. Among the players who received the honor were M1-JamesFoo (Starcraft) and FoRza (Need For Speed Underground II).

There’s still one catch though. Officially, Malaysian players that participated in WCG outside Malaysia will not be allowed to join WCG Malaysia, as discussed throughly in our forums by WCG Malaysia officials. After contacting them, this is their official stand about this new development:

Depending on the finalized rules of this new foreigners rules, Malaysians that joined the tournament will NOT be allowed to join WCG Malaysia due to nationality rules. Unless that the “foreigners category” was a SEPARATE foreigners-only category which technically means that the winners of this category will not be able to represent Singapore in any way.

Dum dum dum. All we can do now is to wait for official confirmation by Rapture next month.
