Unreal Tournament 3

The last time FPS duel game being played in a local large scale tournament was WCG Malaysia 2004. Back then, the game was Unreal Tournament 2004. With Unreal Tournament III finally arrived in our country yesterday after being released in US 10 days ago, will the game made it way back to tournaments in 2008?

Gameriot asked a number of well known professional dueler on their view of UT3. Some of players gave their opinions based on the beta version and a number of them gave their opinion based on the final release of the game. Here are the excerpts:

Andy “gellehsak” Ryder of Team EG: “As far as what I like in the game, it just feels like it will be a fun game to play competitively, whereas Quake 4 felt more of an obligation to play,“.

Brian “destrukt” Flander, CGS Chicago Chimera GM: “The game play is fantastic, but the game is definitely going to need some tweaking from the community. A pro mod should be made which addresses issues such as: horrible sound, weapon/armor timings need to be different, certain weapons need adjustment (ie, Goo is too powerful, plasma shouldn’t hinder movement, and mini is slight too powerful),“.

Johan “toxjq” Quick: “I believe the game has too many direct hit weapons, but what I dislike the most about the game is the idea of removing strafe jumping and sliding. Because of this though, I believe more players will start to play Unreal Tournament 3 because they won’t come in with a huge disadvantage anymore with the movement,“.

Based on above opinions alone, I guess there are still stuff to be done before UT3 can be included in tournaments. Hope Epic will support the game for tournaments just as they did with UT2003 few years back and recently, Gears of War for 360.
