WGT 2007 Malaysia: Day 1 Summary

World GameMaster Tournament Malaysian Championship 2007 is finally here! Yesterday was the first day of the tournament. Hundreds of gamers gathered at One Utama as early as 9am to compete in the first ever WGT Malaysia.

Three games out of 4 official games: Counter Strike 1.6, FIFA’07 and Need for Speed Carbon were played today. Warcraft 3 will only start today. Dig in for the summary of WGT 2007 Malaysian Championship Day 1!

The Tournament Starts

The opening ceremony was very simple. Around 10:30am, the emcee gathered the crowd and a short speech by Mr. B.P Chu, Specialist at ASUStek Computer Malaysia later marked the opening of WGT 2007 Malaysian Championship.

The tournament commenced right after the short opening ceremony. Marshals started calling players name through the P/A system and all gamers follow through.

The Tournament Progress

Although the brackets were full of players but many of them forfeited their match much to disappointments of organizer, marshals and other players alike. NFS Carbon were hit with the most number of forfeited players which delayed the tournament progress. Disconnections also delayed FIFA’07 progress as many of the games have to be restarted.

Apart from the delays and technical hiccups, things were pretty systematic in my opinion. Alright then, let’s got to the results!

Need For Speed Carbon

Matches were played up till Top 32 stage. As expected, many NFS veterans such as FoRza, M1-Heaven, [r0r1]mootsumi and mav3 have no problem sliding through the brackets. This is the list of Top 16 matches, to be played on Day 2:

• Group A: [r0r1]mootsumi vs. alertz
• Group B: pinkfoxazry vs. RAPTOR
• Group C: Syefri Zulkefli vs. Dragostef
• Group D: FoRza vs. skyfrost91
• Group E: incontrolz vs. G-UNIT
• Group F: mav3 vs. stealth
• Group G: M1-Heaven vs. KYAZ
• Group H: redbull_y2k vs. zellhellfire

The winner of above matches will be the top player of their respective group and qualifies to single elimination stage of Top 8.

FIFA’07

Things were pretty hectic at FIFA’07 island as they have the biggest number of competitors in WGT Malaysia 2007, around 128 players. Matches were played till stage of Top 64. As expected again, members from W|nDs and MyFES topped the list of players that qualifies to stage of Top 32.

From W|nDs, they are:

• Group A: Al3x
• Group B: Loon4tic, Quicknet
• Group C: Des
• Group D: Jotaro, Rei
• Group F: Si_jali
• Group G: Vin
• Group H: Diospada

Meanwhile, from MyFES camp:

• Group D: Houlivgan
• Group E: Warrior, Sildes
• Group F: Killer
• Group H: Bush, Solidsnake

The rest of players that will continue their journey among the Top 32 players are:

• Group A: I.S, brot, Nambiar
• Group B: Jay, Vutsi_CHED
• Group C: mzhai86, Xircon
• Group D: m_redz
• Group E: METC_pcoot, Zaira
• Group F: ChowSengSong, Sctang25
• Group G: Male a.k.a WSDL (lolz!), dr.virus, Chief
• Group H: rukawa_gunner

Few interesting thing happened as FIFA’07 tournament progressed. Vutsi_CHED is a well-known Winning Eleven veteran who have a number of tournament champion under his belt, made an amazing performance and qualify through the first two round of FIFA’07 but later today, he will meet one of the best player in country, [W|nDs]Loon4tic. It should a match not to be missed.

Apart from that, a shocking upset happened to [W|nDs]Leoninho, the player who eliminated the WCG Malaysia 2007 champs, [W|nDs]Si_jali during the last CGS Malaysia Qualifier. He lost 2 - 1 to an unknown player with the nick, ChowSengSong (Stephen Chow, lol). It is indeed a shocking news to everybody.

Meanwhile, MyFES also recieved a bad news. Two of their members, bush and Solidsnake are scheduled to play against each other in group H today. Tough luck, guys.

Counter Strike 1.6

In CS1.6, as per other games, the veterans have no problem making it through the bracket. 4 teams already confirmed their place in Top 8 double elimination stage while 8 more teams will play in the stage of Top 16 to redeem four more place in double elimination stage. The remaining stage of Top 16 match is:

• ffv vs. XsM
• Simplicity vs. Hybrid
• E.v.E vs. PwyH.BW
• Sens vs. sfx

The teams that already in Top 8 were:

• Natural Ones
