WCG 2007 Grand Finals: Auricom’s Visa Denied For A Second Time

I guess Auricom and 3D.ny|Method will not met each other this year.

The visa problem among Team Malaysia haa finally hit the roof. News came to me just now that WCG 2007 Grand Final Counter Strike Chief Referee-to be, Douglas “Auricom” Chin, has been denied his visa for a SECOND time. The first rejection happened a week ago.

In a phone call with Auricom, there’s no denying that he is emotionally sad about losing this opportunity. He said even with all the verification and recognition letters from International Cyber Marketing, Seattle Sports Commission, Online e-Club Malaysia and even Valve, the officers over at the US Embassy are still not budging from their decision. The US Embassy denied his visa on the grounds that his monthly salary - around RM 2.2k, was too low.

Auricom was trying as hard as he could to change the official’s mind but the ultimate “OMG, GG, kthnxbye” moment was, as described by Auricom himself:

Auricom:If I show you my bank statement, will it change the decision?
Embassy Official:Unless you have A MILLION BUCKS in your savings, I doubt it.

I’m speechless. How about you guys?

Meanwhile, good luck to our remaining representative; James, [r0r1]Alpha and Team Hybrid. Please bring back some medals, ok? We are all rooting for you!!

it’s not about doug not making enuf money. it’s about what country he comes from. there is a certain bias towards malaysia as they even rated us as a terrorist threat b4. it’s just bias. thats all. nothing to do with his income. with all those companies n even Valve vouching for him, it’s not even a half cooked excuse.

This is unbelievable. The land of opportunity has turned into the Wall of Berlin. I hope the WCG finals next year onwards will be held solely in Asia. Hang in there Doug, we all feel for you.

I think those US embassy officials have been paid to not let some of our talented gamers to compete in the finals…damn them! >(

I say we post this news to GotFrag.com and highlight this lame piece of red tape and beauracracy. Let the world know that this is the last time that the WCG Grand Finals be held in the US if they’re that strict or condescending towards genuine players.

Chapree: I already submitted it to GotFrag, but no reply. :(
