So, not only Playstation 3 can contribute to saving mankind, eh? Peter Moore, the head of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business division said that Microsoft are seriously looking into research application with their Xbox 360, similiar to Folding@home client in Playstation 3. Responding to an interview with Mercury News, Moore said,
Then if we truly believe that we can in some way marshall the resources of a much larger installed base of Xbox 360 owners, with a processer that’s of equal power to the PS3, then you have my commitment that we’ll look at that. And if we believe we can add value to solving a gnarly problem such as the medical problems and the health problems that Folding@home seems to be doing, then we’ll certainly look at that very strongly.
Folding@home (also known as FAH or F@H) is a distributed computing project designed to perform computationally intensive simulations of protein folding and other molecular dynamics simulations. Over 250,000 Playstation 3 owners have downloaded the client which available since March this year and they delivered almost 400 teraflops of computing power at any given time.
