The next hack at MIT, maybe?

One of the most prestigious IT education and research institute in the world and also, one of the best geek center in the world, Massachusetts Institute of Technology just concluded the first ever course that involved Playstation 3. Yes, you read it right. A course that involved a gaming console.

The inaugural 4-week course, sponsored by Sony, IBM and Toshiba teach students the fundamentals of parallel processing multicores with the help of PS3’s Cell processor. At the end of the course, the students developed a number of projects which the best one were rewarded with prizes. You can take a look at the winning project here. Pretty dope results for a one-month class.

When will our local educational institution going to offer this kind of course? Last time I checked, a Playstation devkit are gathering dust at a local university that are famous for their Games Design and Software Engineering course. Maybe it’s time for a new one, specifically a next-gen kit eh?
