WGT Malaysia official website will be up again soon.
Yesterday, we posted out a news that WGT Malaysia team has opened up their official website and also, the registration for WGT Malaysia 2008. Apparently, a call came from the organizing team today that the site opening was premature and all registration are now void.
The reason why it was online is because they are doing a technical testing and they didn’t expect somebody would notice it. The site was taken offline today and anybody that registered for the tournament will have to register again when the site opens officially soon.
Well, at least they know that their official website is working.

If your mates kept on losing to you during LAN session at college or uni, then it’s about time to take it one step up. Make your college or university proud at this weekend’s Inter-College Cyber Games 2008 in APIIT, Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil. The event will take place tomorrow, 19th July 2008 starting at 9:00am.
A total of four games will be played at this event:
- Call of Duty 4
- Counter-Strike 1.6
- DoTA
- FIFA’08
In terms of cash prizes, there will be more than RM 6000 up for grabs, on top of hardwares and magazine subscriptions. Together with the Games Monster ICCG’08 Winning Eleven 2008 tournament mentioned earlier, the total cash prizes we talking about here should be more than RM 10000!
eSports tournaments are not the only thing happening at ICCG’08. There will be a game talk by Csaba Berenyi (Codemasters), Wan Hazmer (creator of award-winning The Last Canopy) and Cheng Boon Kheng (River Walk Multimedia).
ICCG crew are still accepting registration applications for the eSports tournament, which will still be open until the day of the tournament itself. The CoD4 section is a little bit shake since they are currently short in participants. They need at least four more teams or they will have to cancel the CoD4 section which is a pity especially with all the nice prizes available

Games Monster PlayStation 3 tournament series is back again with what to be their biggest tournament yet - the Merdeka Winning Eleven 2008 Tournament. The tournament will be held in conjunction with Merdeka Futsal Tournament 2008 at Sports Planet Subang Grand, Subang Jaya on 16 August 2008.
This tournament offered a total of RM 3,000 cash prize purse, the biggest yet from Games Monster. Out from the three grand, RM 1,000 will directly to the champione while the prizes are given until the 16th place winner. Each cash prize are accompanied with a copy of Pro Soccer Evolution 2008 (PC) provided by local Konami distro, PLAY Interactive.
Registration fee for each player will RM 40. A little bit steeper than usual, but given the available prizes, it ain’t that bad.
Each registered player will be given a Winning Eleven 2008 t-shirt, poster and gamer tag.
If you prefer to qualify to the event early, Games Monster is going to offer Top 4 winners at ICCG 2008 in APITT, Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil this Saturday. The competition at APITT is open to both students (from all colleges & unis) and non-students alike. It is not a mere qualifier mind you, as there are cash prizes as well. As expected from Games Monster.
Since this event will be held on the same weekend of WCG Malaysia 2008, it is basically an alternative tournament for non-FIFA players. Looks like we going to have a very happening weekend soon!

Panoramic view of the media briefing.

It is indeed an annual tradition at E3 where the three gaming giants: Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony will held a media briefing to announce their world domination plan to the masses. Microsoft started the race once again as per previous years and announced lots of stuff especially for their Xbox 360 platform.
New games, new updates and one very surprising announcement were unleashed to the folks that attended the briefing and tons of others who watched the event live stream on the net. Without further due, check out the highlights from this year’s Microsoft E3 Media Briefing.

When the first international based computer games competition emerged itself 8 years ago, many realized the potential of this “new content” has in the IT industry or any industry that was related. It was a huge success; seeing thousands of gamers actually participated in the event and some sponsors taking a bite out of the meat. Being a gamer myself, I started to believe pro-gaming would actually happen in Malaysia.
Although we were still pretty much pre-matured during that time, many companies were formed and tried to emulate what the US gaming companies or Koreans were doing. Every campaign was experimental and any setbacks that appeared at that time were deemed as challenges. Simple successes were still successes after all.
That was 8 years ago. Sadly even after the first emergence of the World Cyber Games, the only direction competitive gaming scene is moving nowhere but downwards.

Promised to be a very huuugeeee gaming festival that cover both PC and console spectrum, there will be a lot of things going on at the same time throughout the event. We did previously mentioned about Codemasters GRID promotion, The RM 25,000 CELgames’08 Qualifier & Grand Finals and PLAY Interactive Gamers Movie Day featuring Hellboy 2, but those are only a small portion of what the event got to offer.
As listed by Lim Kuan Keat - the GameAxis’ Sub-Editor himself, here are few more activities that you will be able to see at the event:
- Game showcase from local distributor of Electronic Arts, Konami, Codemasters, Nintendo, KOEI and THQ on PC and consoles. Not to forget, online game titles from AsiaSoft (CABAL Online), Eaglegame (HighStreet 5) and Cubinet Interactive (Perfect World Online).
- Chance to win a Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii through lucky draw.

Today, Rei of SpotGamers revealed a delicious (nyum nyum!) news about the Malaysian leg of World GameMaster Tournament 2008. Apparently, ASUS put up an advertisement in today’s edition of The Star newspaper which featured the dates and venue of the WGT 2008 Malaysia Final.

Weapon? What weapon? XD
As you can see above, the advertisement depicts a number of image that representing couple of games - FIFA’08, Warcraft 3/DoTA, Counter-Strike and also, NFS ProStreet in the advertisement background. The inclusion of those images gave an impression that these game will be the official games of this year’s edition.
So, mark your calendar then - Midvalley Megamall Center Court from 29th October till 2nd November 2008. If the dates and my prediction above are correct, then gamers will have a reason to keep on holding their gamepads, keyboards and mices since WGT Malaysia 2008 is just a mere two months after WCG Malaysia 2008 and both tournament’s official games are relatively the same.
Although the official confirmation is not yet available, this teaser is indeed a great news for everybody. I’m definitely looking forward for this one!

A very big step for local and global DoTA scene was taken recently when Kingsurf announced that they added the former Virtus.Pro DoTA squad into their roster. I believe that this is the first time ever that a local organization sponsored an European team. The new squad will now be known as Kingsurf.International.

The Russians, who are multiple winner of ASUS Cup and MYM PriDe are pretty happy with their new home. According to an interview at Kingsurf official website, Clement “Ks^Puppey” Ivanov stated that it is indeed a privilege to be sponsored by Ks which are also known for their massive fanbase. Puppey also pointed that the sponsorship deal was completed in a very short time.
This is a very interesting development, which I predict will have direct impact at ESWC Grand Finals next month. That if both team able to get there.
